This summer we decided to head to the Hamptons for vacation. It was super fun to check out something completely different. Everyone in my area heads to the gulf coast and this year we wanted to branch out. We decided to stay in Montauk and found a super cute cottage on the lake. The next time we come we will relax a little more, but this time was all about exploring and seeing everything the area has to offer. It was a great time!
Montauk / Montauk is the most natural and relaxed town in the Hamptons. It is the farthest out on Long Island and is about three hours from the city. This town caters to surfers and the waves are perfect for water sports. Many of the beaches and restaurants and tucked off the roads in the hills that roll into the ocean. It is beautiful and the perfect place to unwind.
Stay
The Crow’s Nest / 4 Old West Lake Drive / www.thecrowsnestmtk.com / We rented one of the David Pharoah cottages here. The cottage was as cute as can be and the amenities include complimentary wifi, paddleboards, bicycles, continental breakfast, beach parking passes, and beach towels. This made for a really relaxing stay. Next time we visit, we are going to order our Plated delivery service and have fun meals delivered. This would make for an even more relaxing time, as grocery stores are scarce here!
We enjoyed the sunset views of the lake.
The deck was the perfect place to enjoy a breakfast of coffee, croissants with preserves and blackberries. The kids enjoyed housemade granola and greek yogurt.
The living room was adorable.
The kitchenette was great for light cooking.
The minibar was fabulous and stocked with local goodies.
Our cottage had two identical bedrooms and bathrooms, which was perfect for us.
The bathroom was stylish!
The amenities were fantastic too!

The Surf Lodge / www.thesurflodge.com / 193 Edgemere Street / We decided to try this super hip spot for brunch. I ordered an iced latte and the Big Breakie. It had two eggs, slow-roasted tomatoes, portobello mushrooms, and baby spinach. It was fantastic to enjoy the pretty view on the lake while lingering over a latte. This place is swamped in the evening and there is a good reason. This summer’s concert series included one of my favorite bands, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes….pretty amazing!!!

Rushmeyer’s / 161 2nd House Road / www.chelseahotels.com/us/montauk/ruschmeyer-s/about / This resort and restaurant is summer camp for hipsters. There restaurant takes me back to Dirty Dancing. Dan and I ordered jalapeno watermelon margaritas, smashed pea crostini with house-made ricotta, wood-fired asparagus, and a margarita pizza. The food was delicious and it was a fun evening.

Ditch Plains Beach / Ditch Plains Road / This is the beach to watch surfers and completely relax for the day. You will need to have a parking permit and most hotels provide those. You will also need to bring your own umbrellas and chairs here. There are food trucks that serve snacks and lunch fare. The cliff views are sensational!!

Amagansett / This preppy little town is in between Montauk and East Hampton / This is quintessential Hamptons. Adorable boutiques surround Amagansett Square and you can grab a cup of coffee and window shop down Main Street.

Mary’s Marvelous / 207 Main Street / www.marysmarvelous.com /I had a fantastic avocado sandwich here and my kids went crazy for the chocolate cupcakes. We took our picnic and had a nice afternoon lunch in a gazebo in Amagansett Square.

La Fondita / 74 Montauk Highway / www.lafondita.net / We ordered chips and fresh salsa, vegetable burritos, Negro Modelo and Mexican sodas for the kids. This is great Mexican food in a really fun outdoor setting. You order from the bar and enjoy your food on picnic tables or on brightly colored Mexican blankets. The picnic area is ensconced in thick bamboo and has lights strung across, making it a fun setting. The portions are gigantic and my husband and I could have easily split a burrito.

Amagansett Farmer’s Market / 367 Main Street / www.elizabar.com / This historic farmer’s market was established in 1954 and is still a gem featuring produce from local farmers. The market is run by NYC tastemaker Eli Zabar and his gourmet goodies are available here. Amazing baked goods are prepared on-site. Stop here before heading back into Montauk and get preparations for an outdoor feast!

East Hampton / This town is chic and fun and something from a storybook. There are windmills and a beautiful lake with swans that snakes right through town. The shopping is elegant and fun. The restaurants are lovely and you can definitely have a wonderful day of shopping and linger over a fancy lunch. The architecture here is fabulous and insanely preppy chic. You should definitely take time to drive around and check out the lovely mansions on Lily Pond Lane that sit on the ocean…. how dreamy!

It had lettuce, carrots, hearts of palm, avocado, corn, and Sardinian dressing. Next, we shared the Al Caprino pizza. It had mozzarella, goat cheese, arugula, red peppers, and roasted eggplant. This is my family’s go-to spot in NYC and everyone can find something they love on the menu.

Main Beach & Ice Cream Shop / 101 Ocean Avenue / www.easthamptonvillage.org / Daily parking passes are available for $25 per car. On the weekend, there are only 40 passes sold. It is recommended that you come at 9 am to get one. At this beach, you bring your own chairs and umbrellas. There is a snack bar that serves ice cream, snacks, and lunch fare. This is a fun beach to see and be seen at!
