there are a ton of things to do in louisville and i want to share my favorites with you. i enjoy scenic settings and unique events. i also enjoy the creative culture that louisville offers. the fall is a great time to be in the bluegrass, as so many festivals occur this season. i also love family friendly events and enjoying the natural beauty of the bluegrass. obviously, equestrian events are fun here, but fine arts are excellent options too! cheers to fall adventures!
foxhollow farms fall festival / www.foxhollow.com / 8905 highway 329 crestwood, ky / this is a wonderful farm complete with caramel apples, a hay castle, pony rides, silk scarf dying, and more /so much fun
churchill downs / www.churchilldowns.com / 700 central avenue / you can’t come to louisville in racing season and not see the ponies run, what would be the point? / regardless of when you are here, the track is fun / you can get dressed up and do a fancy day at the downs or get a group together and enjoy night racing / you can also just don you preppy gear and go for an afternoon in the sun / if you manage to be here in may, you cannot miss derby week!
iroquois amphitheater / www.iroqouisampitheater.com / 1080 ampitheater road / i just recently saw a concert here and it was wonderful/ the renovation of this venue make it a wonderful place to see an outdoor show!
kentucky center for the arts / www.kentuckycenter.org / 501 west main street / you can see many national and regional performances here, such as the louisville ballet, david sedaris and the indigo girls.
yew dell gardens / www.yewdellgardens.org / 6220 old la grange road / these beautiful gardens are quite lovely and open to the public / events such a “boo dell” for little ones, are a great way to experience this insipiring setting
cherokee park / www.louisvilleky.gov/metroparks/parks/cherokee / 745 cochran hill road / this olmstead park is a wonderful place to commune with nature or walk on the 2.4 mile scenic loop
sophisticated living polo matches / www.slmag.net / oxmoor farm / this is a wonderful day on the farm watching great polo matches and mingling / September 8th 1-8pm / $25 adults / children complimentary / ticket include brunch buffet, cocktails, music, children’s activities, vendor village and more
cherokee triangle art fair / www.cherokeetriangle.org/art-fair / cherokee triangle / this occurs on the weekend before derby every year / over 200 juried artists bring their wares to show / fairgoers can also enjoy food, music and beverages / it is great to grab a glass of wine and peruse the fair on a sunny afternoon
the palace / www.louisvillepalace.com / 625 south fourth street / this is the best venue in town to take in a concert / the interior is magical and is considered one of the most beautiful existing theaters from its’ era
louisville zoo / www.louisvillezoo.org / 1100 trevillian way / the zoo is a wonderful asset for louisville families / the exhibits are always being updated and the carousel is beautiful / it is a great idea to go on a pretty afternoon in the late fall, when the animals are more active and there is little to no crowd / get a family pass and enjoy the outdoor movies in the summer and early fall
louisville ballet / www.louisvilleballet.org / center for the arts / the louisville ballet is an excellent cultural asset in the city / my family likes to attend the classic performances like swan lake and cinderella / the nutcracker is a must see every year and be sure to attend the ones that the louisville orchestra plays at
st james court art show / www.stjamescourtartshow.com / st james court / the first full weekend in october / this is the largest art show in the region and is a wonderful autumn afternoon / grab a hot cider (weather permitting) and stroll through beautiful artwork and architecture / be sure to have lunch from one of the many food vendors
still spinnin / www.stillspinnin.biz / 1745 bardstown road / this is the best sweat of your life / the music is great and there is a dj regularly there / make sure to take steve’s class, as he teaches a fantastic spin class
louisville boat club tennis program / www.louisvilleboatclub.com / 4200 river road / one unknown fact is that the children’s quickstart tennis program at lbc is open to non-members / my children love this program because the intrustors are great and the other children are tons of fun / i love this program because they teach good sportsmanship and manners along with tennis instruction
