Cincinnati Lately

Cincinnati Lately

cincy mural.jpg

We have been to Cincinnati a few times lately and it makes a nice afternoon. There are definitely some new places you should check out when you are there. If you are looking for something to do this weekend I would suggest these picks. This would be a great day of brunch, a cool exhibit and a little shopping too. This is the last weekend of this show and these pieces won’t be shown together again, so go!

Veggie burger with simple side salad and ginger hot tea with lemon

This veggie burger is amazing with havarti cheese, avocado, lemon caper dijonaise, and iceberg slaw…yum!! The interior here is very cool and has a California vibe. We were smitten with the lighting, the tile and the beverage station.

Gold Digger / a blend of grapefruit, orange and pineapple

This cool juicery is a fun place to get a great tasty pick me up. I love the bottle design and the great flavor names like “All About the Benjamins” and “Gold Digger.”

The Candle Lab / 1325 Vine Street / www.thecandlelab.com

You can custom blend your own candle here. The packaging is cool and minimal. I love the patchouli scent which is a nice breath of fresh air in the new year.

Elm and Iron Loft / 1411 Vine Street / www.elmandiron.com

This interior store is really cool. The vibe is industrial and chic. It’s a mix of vintage and new and is super unique. I have found several pieces that I am daydreaming of. I am hoping to order a few this spring. On the second floor there is a huge window in the floor looking down to the first floor. It totally freaks me out but it’s very cool!

Continuum / 1407 Vine Street / www.continuumbazaar.com

I love this super cute boutique! I found some new perfume oil here and I love it. You will find pretty jewelry and unique brands here. The owner focuses on finding small companies making different and special designs.

Lane and Kate & Two Little Buds / 1405 Vine Street / www.laneandkate.com

This beautiful little shop will reopen this month and has a lovely mix of florals, pretty plants, jewelry and beauty products. Go for the French Girl Beauty products, frilly house plants and fantastic topiaries in tall elegant clay pots.

Macaron Bar / 1206 Main Street / www.macaron-bar.com

My kids love to snag treats from this macaron shop. Their faves are the dark chocolate, pistachio and red currant. They also have cool cooking classes. They are buy one get one half off right now. That would be a swanky and creative valentine’s date!

Fabletics / Kenwood Mall / www.fabletics.com

I have purchased a few pieces from fabletics over the years and was never a complete convert. We passed by this shop in Kenwood Mall and I was curious so I took a peek. I was impressed with the improved quality of the pieces. I also thought that they had some really cute pieces that would be as adorable on the go as in the gym. If you are a member you also get your discount in the store, which is pretty hefty.

Van Gogh Into the Undergrowth / 953 Eden Park Drive / http://cincinnatiartmuseum.org/art/exhibitions/van-gogh-into-the-undergrowth

This exhibit focuses on forest interior landscapes by Van Gogh and his contemporaries. I really liked the textures in these works and it is pretty interesting to think of how these pieces could have inspired designers like Missoni. Expect for this exhibit to be a bit crowded. I would suggest downloading the guide on your phone and listening to it with headphones. Another thought is that you might just listen to classical music and enjoy the paintings if you already know the genre. I like to drown out distractions. Afterwards you can stroll through the Krohn Conservatory and ogle the plants in the cactus room.
